The Gujarat government on Monday expressed shock over the decision of the Supreme Court to stay all proceedings in the July 26, 2008, serial bomb blasts case and said the stay was given without even hearing them. "We cannot make comments on the decision of the judiciary. And it is also not our intention. But as far as the state government is concerned, it was very shocking," Gujarat government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas said.

"There is no panic about the swine flu in Gujarat. We have assured quick diagnosis and quicker treatment up to the district level. We are taking the event very seriously. So far, of all the patients examined in Gujarat, some 20 per cent have been diagnosed with swine flu. But we have geared up well. We will go through the crisis with minimum damage. We consider this problem as a challenge," says Jai Narayan Vyas, the state health minister.

Apprehending trouble from 'self-styled moral police forces' on Valentine's Day, the National Commission for Women has asked all the states in the country to ensure that women and girls are not harassed or assaulted by individuals or groups on February 14. NCW chairperson Girija Vyas has requested all chief ministers to kindly instruct the state machinery to be vigilant on the day. "There should not be any infringement upon the personal freedom of individuals," the NCW said.

The National Commission for Women on Friday decided not to accept the report filed by its member Nirmala Venkatesh on the Mangalore pub attacks, a week after she visited the site and blamed security lapses for the incident.At a meeting in New Delhi today, the NCW took stock of the entire report filed by Venkatesh and decided not to accept it, said Commission chairperson Girija Vyas. An independent commission from Women and Child Development Ministry has already visited Mlore.
